Get Ready to Vote

Under New York State law, college students can vote using either their college address or their home address.

That doesn't mean you can just show up and vote on election day. You need to register in the place you intend to vote.

In order to vote in the , you must be registered to vote by October 26, 2024, and you must be 18 years old by November 5, 2024.

If you're not able to vote in person, you may in advance of the election to cast your vote.

Vote by mail with an early mail ballot

On September 20, 2023, Governor Hochul signed Chapter 481 of the Laws of 2023, establishing the New York Early Mail Voter Act. Any registered voter may apply for an early mail ballot. 

Please note: Due to a recent change in law, New York State voters are no longer permitted to cast a ballot on a voting machine if they have already been issued an early mail or absentee ballot for that election. Voters who have already been issued an absentee or early mail ballot (see below) can still vote in person using an affidavit ballot.
